Disaster Relief: “Serving Christ in Crisis”
Disaster Relief is a ministry-based approach to impacting people for the Kingdom of God. The motto of the Georgia Baptist Convention’s “Serving Christ in Crisis” has two implications:
- We serve Christ to those persons who are the victims of disaster.
- When we minister to persons in need, we are serving Christ (Matthew 25:46).
The goal of Disaster Relief is to provide some measure of normalcy for the victims of a disaster event. Disaster Relief focuses on five areas of ministry:
Chaplaincy | Child Care | Clean-Up & Recovery | Communications | Feeding
Everyone who wants to be involved in this ministry must be "Phase 1" trained. The FBC McDonough Missions Team is offering Disaster Relief Training through the Georgia Baptist Convention for all who are interested in becoming involved. Please contact Tom Bergman at 404-502-8378 to sign up. A training date will be set when the Missions Team knows how many people would like to take part in the Disaster Relief ministry. Phase II training, for those who want to serve the lord on a leadership basis, will be offered at area locations in 2010.

First Baptist Church of McDonough has accepted the Acts 1:8 Challenge!
The Southern Baptist Convention challenged SBC Churches to declare their commitment to a "comprehensive mission strategy" in their community, state, country, and world.
Jesus' parting words to his disciples in Acts 1:8 was a promise : "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
FBC has committed to take the gospel, in word and in deed,
to our Jerusalem (Henry County, our Judea (Georgia) , our Samaria (The United States),
and to the ends of the earth
